Olveiroa

It was a short walk today to Olveiroa. The distance between Santa Marina, where we stayed last night, and the next major stop, the town of Cee, would have been 10 miles beyond Olveiroa so we opted to stay here. The town has rugged charm, and the Xunta albergue (municipal system in Galicia) comprises storybook stone casas.

Dew-covered fields in the morning light

Abundant fuschia flowers added color to the path.

Lots of cows kept us company.

A boot on a marker was perhaps left by a walker who no longer needed it or who wanted to lighten the load on the final stretch to the ocean. The marker's blue arrow guides pilgrims walking eastward -- we've seen pink arrows too but were told yesterday the blue ones mark the way.

We saw the Swede Sandra Maria Lindquist at a cafe -- she was walking onwards to Cee. Behind us is a big horreo with mushroom posts, which keep rodents out.

The albergue's clothesline area included an horreo.

The building where we stayed was part of several casas converted to walker lodging. All of them had turquoise double-doors and shutters.

Laundry hung on a rooftop down the cobbled street from the Xunta.

Looking out to the office casa from my bed

A barn across the street had calves who were resting in the afternoon heat -- I took this picture over the doorway opening.
