Burgos to Rabe de las Calzados

The familiar yellow arrows and shells embedded in the streets guided us out of Burgos. The skies looked promising as we departed -- no need for our poncho/garbage bags. Before leaving we filled water bottles at the fuente outside our albergue and ate desayuno at a bar recommended by walker Hans from Hamburg.

One last look at the Cathedral -- this view shows the northeast end.

Blue patches and flowers brightened the path.

Only 7.8 miles to Rabe -- tomorrow we begin longer distances to reach Leon in 10 days. Rabe de las Calzadas is a pilgrim village with a population of 190. Its winding streets are lined with flowerpots, rustic walls, and weathered windows.

Overcast skies turned sunny late afternoon.

On the outskirt of town is Ermita de Nuestra Senora de Monasterio.

Our albergue -- with the biggest yellow arrow seen yet!

The albergue meal included soup, mixed salad, potato omelette, and yoghurt dessert. Other walkers were from the U.S. (Maine & Rhode Island), Holland, and Finland.
